Buyer’s Questions
How is the program different from KansasStateCars.com?
The Cars for Cats program focuses on selling vehicles via auction to support student success, faculty development and the learning environment at K‐State through the KSU Foundation. Cars for Cats is separate from the KansasStateCars.com program, which sells new and pre‐owned vehicles available at participating auto dealerships through traditional auto buying methods for the benefit of student scholarships, facility enhancements and alumni programming through K‐State Athletics and the K‐State Alumni Association.
Who can buy a vehicle?
Anyone can buy a vehicle being auctioned through the Cars for Cats program. Possible buyers may be other K‐State alumni, fans and friends, or another bidder who may have no affiliation to the university and just happens to find the vehicle of interest being sold through Purple Wave Auction’s online or live auctions.
Where do the vehicles come from?
The vehicles in the Cars for Cats program come from individual K‐State alumni, fans and friends who have vehicles they wish to sell and subsequently donate the bid price of the sale to benefit Wildcat excellence at K‐State.
As the buyer, do I have to pay any fees?
Yes. You, the buyer, will pay a 10% Buyer’s Premium that is added to the final bid price.
Are there other items available for sale that help benefit K‐State?
While the Cars for Cats program specializes in automotive auctions, there may be other items such as boats, trailers, farm implements, acreage, etc., that are available for sale by auction and help benefit K‐State. For more information, contact Purple Wave Auction at (866) 608‐9283 or carsforcats@pw.com.
Are there any reserves on vehicles?
No. All vehicles will be sold.
Where are the vehicles listed for sale?
Vehicles being sold through the Cars for Cats program will be sold via Internet or live auction. The auction process will be determined by Purple Wave Auction. Generally, an online auction will occur unless the vehicle is located near one of the Purple Wave Auction locations.
Do all the vehicles run?
The Cars for Cats program accepts vehicles of all levels of quality, and in most cases, the vehicles are in good running condition. However, sometimes a vehicle may still have value even if it does not currently run. You will find this information in the auction disclosure.
Are all the vehicles titled?
In order to be sold, the vehicle must have a valid title. Upon settlement of the auction, you will receive the transferred title for the vehicle.
Who is responsible for getting the vehicle to its destination after the sale?
You, the buyer, will be responsible for coordinating and paying for pickup or shipping of the vehicle. Upon conclusion of the auction, you will receive more information from Purple Wave Auction regarding how to contact the seller to arrange pickup or shipping.
As the buyer, do I get to choose where the proceeds go?
No. The seller chooses a K‐State fund to which to donate the bid price, and Purple Wave Auction will handlt settlement for the auctioned vehicle and will disburse the bid price to the KSU Foundation on the seller’s behalf. As the buyer, you will not be credited for making a charitable contribution.
How much of the proceeds will K‐State receive?
Unlike other programs in which only a portion of the sale proceeds go to the charity, the Cars for Cats program results in a donation of 100 percent of each vehicle’s final bid price to K‐State.
Will I know what fund the proceeds are going to benefit?
No. The KSU Foundation cooperates with the seller to select a specific fund upon settlement of the auction, so the fund will not be announced prior to or during the auction.
