Seller’s Questions
How is the program different from KansasStateCars.com?
The Cars for Cats program focuses on selling vehicles via auction to support student success, faculty development and the learning environment at K‐State through the KSU Foundation. Cars for Cats is separate from the KansasStateCars.com program, which sells new and pre‐owned vehicles available at participating auto dealerships through traditional auto buying methods for the benefit of student scholarships, facility enhancements and alumni programming through K‐State Athletics and the K‐State Alumni Association.
How will I know how much my vehicle is worth?
Once you have completed our online form expressing interest in the program, an automotive auction specialist from Purple Wave Auction will personally contact you to discuss the details of the vehicle in question. If your vehicle is estimated to be worth approximately $1,000 or more, you may continue with the auction listing process. An estimated wholesale market value also may be provided upon request.
As the seller, do I have to pay any fees?
No. The buyer will pay the fees for listing the vehicle with Purple Wave Auction, which will charge a 10% Buyer’s Premium that is added to the final bid price.
Will any fees be deducted from the bid price of my vehicle sale?
No. The buyer will pay Purple Wave Auction’s fees through the Buyer’s Premium and 100 percent of the final bid price from your vehicle will go to the K‐State fund of your choice.
May I use this program to sell other assets and donate the bid price to K‐State?
Yes. While the Cars for Cats program specializes in automotive auctions, similar program guidelines may apply for boats, trailers, farm implements, acreage, etc. For more information, contact Purple Wave Auction at (866) 608‐9283 or carsforcats@pw.com.
When do I provide my title?
You will provide your endorsed title to Purple Wave Auction with your signed auction agreement prior to listing the vehicle.
Can I put a reserve on my vehicle?
No. All vehicles will be sold. If you would like an appraised estimate of wholesale market value, contact Purple Wave Auction at (866) 608‐9283 or carsforcats@pw.com.
Will my vehicle be sold online or at a live auction?
The auction process will be determined by Purple Wave Auction. Generally, an Internet auction will occur unless the vehicle is located near one of the Purple Wave Auction locations.
Do I have to transport my vehicle to an auction location?
Probably not. Most auctions will occur online and the buyer is responsible for arranging pickup and shipping of the vehicle. If you live near a Purple Wave Auction location and a live auction is deemed
appropriate, you might transport your vehicle a short distance to the auction facility. Purple Wave can arrange transportation to one of its sites for additional fees. Contact Purple Wave Auction at (866) 608‐9283 or carsforcats@pw.com.
What if my vehicle doesn’t run?
If the vehicle doesn’t run, this will need to be noted in the disclosure. If the vehicle still has value, it may still be appropriate to sell it at auction. For more details, contact Purple Wave Auction at (866) 608‐9283 or carsforcats@pw.com.
What if I don’t know where the title is?
In order to be sold, the vehicle must have a valid title. In the event you have lost your title, Purple Wave Auction can provide information on obtaining a replacement title.
What happens if I still owe money on the vehicle?
In the event that you sell a vehicle that you still owe money on, you bank will need to approve the auction before the vehicle will be listed. Purple Wave Auction will handle the payoff with your bank and any equity will be donated to K‐State. These details will be addressed by your Purple Wave Auction specialist.
Who is responsible for getting the vehicle to its destination after the sale?
The buyer is responsible for coordinating and paying for pickup or shipping of the vehicle.
Will I get to choose where I want my bid price to go?
Yes. You may designate a fund at K‐State to donate the proceeds of your vehicle’s sale. A representative from the KSU Foundation will contact you after the auction to help you determine the specific fund to which your proceeds will be designated.
When do I designate the fund for my donation?
Purple Wave will handle settlement for the auctioned vehicle and will disburse the proceeds the KSU Foundation on your behalf. Upon receiving proceeds, the KSU Foundation will issue the donor a receipt for the value of your donation (final bid price at which it was purchased via auction). Upon receipt of the sale proceeds, a KSU Foundation representative will contact you to discuss the funds in which you are interested and further designate a specific fund to receive your donation.
How much of the proceeds will K‐State receive?
The Cars for Cats program results in a donation of 100 percent of each vehicles final bid price to K‐State. As the seller, you will be recognized for the donation.
Can I distribute the bid price of my vehicle’s sale across multiple K‐State funds?
Yes. Your KSU Foundation representative will discuss specific funds with you once your vehicle has been sold.
